Social Media Graphics: Why Every Platform Needs a Different Size

Using one image everywhere rarely works well. A post, story and cover each need their own shape to look sharp.

An image that fits perfectly as an Instagram post gets automatically cropped and quickly looks a bit less sharp as a LinkedIn cover or an Instagram story. Every channel, and every spot within that channel, calls for its own size.

1

Post, Story and Cover: Each a Different Shape

We design banners and templates for the common channels such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, each in the correct size for post, story and cover. A story is vertical and fills the whole screen, a post is usually square or slightly rectangular, and a cover is wide and horizontal. Reuse the same image across all three without adjusting it, and the key element tends to get cropped the wrong way.

2

Still One Recognisable Brand

Different sizes don't have to mean every channel looks different. Send us your logo and brand guide (or just your brand colours and fonts), and we'll build your digital designs consistently on top of that — so a follower moving from your Instagram story to your LinkedIn page instantly recognises the same business.

Able to Keep Working Yourself

Don't want to bring in a designer for every single post? On request we provide an editable template, so you can easily put together new posts yourself within the fixed brand style, without starting from scratch every time.

4

What You Receive

You receive the files in the correct size and resolution for online use, for example as PNG/JPG for immediate use and, if desired, the editable source file. We provide 2 feedback rounds per design as standard. Curious about the options? Check out our digital design page.
